Nestled in a charming rural town just fifteen minutes south of the Columbia River Gorge, the Historic Balch Hotel offers guests a bounty of sunny, windless days, elegant surroundings, Mount Hood views, and the peaceful tranquility of the country. We've lovingly restored woodwork, furnished the entire hotel with period antiques, and landscaped the grounds, creating spaces for our guests to relax in luxury.
With well over 300 sunny days the weather and paved scenic roads are very conducive for bicycle, motorcycle riding, and car driving. Schedule a visit and take in the possibilities!!

We operate our hotel as an oversized Bed and Breakfast melding the two together in order to give you the best of both! Mo Olson creates your breakfast utilizing as much local food as possible from businesses like Mountain Shadow Natural Meats, produce stands and farmers markets.
There are three room styles for you to choose from. Our traditional rooms have a European flare sharing bathrooms across the hall. Most have a private in-room sink, and some have a Mt. Hood View. Your next room choice is slightly updated, having a private attached bath. Finally, our suite is furnished with a luxurious king bed, a Mt. Hood view, and a private Jacuzzi tub (call about our romance package for your special someone!). All rooms include breakfast for two.
We offer free wireless for customers but you will not find televisions, phones, or radios in this historic hotel. You'll experience a great working weekend without interruptions or distractions, or come here to completely unplug! We are not yet handicapped accessible but it is in the works.
