Greetings from Hood River!

It’s summertime and the Hood River waterfront is teeming with activity—windsurfing, kiteboarding, fishing, sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, whitewater rafting, kayaking—our river playground is in full swing. This is the time of year when that popular Gorge wind makes Hood River such a mecca for water sports enthusiasts. Of course, we love our land sports too, like biking, hiking, horseback riding, skateboarding, golf—the list goes on and on.
Add to that all the fantastic local produce available right now from this rich agricultural area—fresh cherries, strawberries, apricots, and veggies found at the many Fruit Loop farm stands and the weekly (Thursdays from 5pm) Farmer’s Market in Hood River. The lavender fields are blooming, the waterfalls are running fast, and warm summer weather appears to be here to stay for the next few months.

Hi Kerry, I picked up some local rainier cherries this weekend. I thought a pound would be enough…but 45 mis later they were all gone. What could be better, great hikes, amazing fruit and sunshine. Ahhh. Summer in the Pacific Northwest. Sweet!

If you’d rather enjoy the wind and water without the chaos of an event or competition, rent gear at one of the many windsurfing shops in Hood River and rig your board at one of the popular windsurfing sites along the byway. Check for area restrictions before you go— windsurfing may not be safe or allowed in certain parts of the river.
