Located in the agriculturally-rich Hood River valley, Hood River has an innovative, regionally-inspired food scene that rivals its big city neighbors but is infused with small-town charm. (The San Jose Mercury News dubbed Hood River “a food paradise.”)

This February kicks off the second annual Hood River Foodie February – a month-long celebration of the area’s delicious dining scene, giving visitors and locals alike the chance to support local restaurants and discover some of the best food and menus in the region.

New this year is the Foodie February Sandwich Smackdown. Just for Foodie February, participating member restaurants are creating a unique specialty sandwich to ‘compete’ against the other Sandwich Smackdown offerings. Bring on the mouth-watering sammies, grinders, paninis, hoagies, burgers or subs to warm your bellies all month long. Apple Valley BBQ’s  – Danger Zone Burger

Named after one of the best songs ever written by the great Kenny Loggins, this is the ultimate BBQ burger, with two BBQ bacon cheese burgers, topped with Monterey Jack and cheddar cheeses, placed on a mountain of our cherry-wood-smoked pulled pork. Not for the faint of heart, but perfect for a Sandwich Smackdown!

Blue Canoe Cafe – The Reuben

Is it possible to pack so many taste sensations into one bite? Tangy, sweet, savory, spicy—it’s all there! The Blue Canoe’s Reuben is a mound of our slow-roasted corned beef topped with Pepper Jack cheese, loaded onto rye bread and smeared with our house-made “special sauce.”

Shaved Italian prosciutto, melted Gruyère, red pepper reduction and crisp romaine on a Pine Street Bakery ciabatta. Served with salad or chips.

Double Mountain Brewery – Tuna Melt

Oregon coast, line-caught Albacore tuna with Tillamook white cheddar; toasted and served on a local Pine St. Bakery ciabatta roll with pickled red onions and arugula.

Ferment Brewing Co. – Ferment Pork Sandwich

This sandwich is made of thinly sliced, slow-roasted rotisserie pork shoulder, bacon, a fried egg, house-made kimchi and Kewpie mayonnaise on buttered, toasted Pine Street Bakery Great White sliced bread. We serve this rockin’ sando with a side of pickled red onion and a fresh arugula salad dressed with Fermented Honey and Garlic Dressing.

Full Sail Brewing Co. — Mole Burger

Northwest grass-fed-certified Black Angus half-pound burger cooked to a perfect medium. Topped with house-made mole negro sauce, sliced avocado, habanero, pickled red onion, Cotija cheese and fresh cilantro on a local Pine Street Bakery bolillo bun.

Pfriem – Grilled Cheese

Thick cut Grand Central sourdough, four cheeses, red pepper jam, roasted delicata squash – option to add bacon!

River Daze – Spicy Tempeh

The Spicy Tempeh starts with our sweet and spicy house-marinated and baked tempeh topped with kraut-chi, Havarti cheese, and our crispy sweet iceberg and cabbage blend, all sandwiched between our house bread smothered with Adam’s peanut butter and sweet-hot mustard. This flavor-packed, hearty vegetarian sandwich is easily made vegan with the request of no cheese!

Sixth Street Bistro – Winter Bucket List

Blackened organic chicken breast topped with bacon, provolone cheese and our housemade pear chutney with our house cut fries that we love so much!

Solstice Woodfire Cafe – Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich

Gochuchang fried chicken, Maggie’s spice aioli, green onions, pickled carrots, black & watermelon radish, served on a toasted sweet bun.

Thunder Island Brewing Co. – Ultimate Sriracha Burger

Chef Ron has created the Ultimate Sriracha Burger, a 1/2 pound beef burger infused with Sriracha sauce and topped with caramelized onions, bacon and white cheddar. Pair it with a pint of Resilience IPA for the ultimate meal.

Gorge Grown

  1. Local Food Buyer + Seller Matchmaker – a networking event that brings together local food buyers (chefs, institutional buyers, restaurateurs etc.) and local food sellers (farmers, ranchers, food artisans). This is a free event and open to buyers from anywhere and producers from the Gorge. Feb. 21st 10am – noon, Skyline Hospital.
  2. Hood River Indoor Farmers Market – The market features a wide variety of local produce, meats, eggs, cheese, baked goods, honey and other artisanal food stuffs. Youth that visit the market will receive a free $2 token to purchase fresh fruits or vegetables from a local farmer. February dates: 2/2 & 2/16, 1pm – 4pm, The Ruins (13 Railroad Street)
