Hood River is located just off Interstate 84, exits 61-64. (I-84 runs the length of the Gorge and provides easy driving access to points both east and west). Across the river in Washington State, SR 14 also follows the river and offers access to small local communities as well as the Mt. Adams Wilderness Area, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and the scenic area around Troutlake, WA. To reach Hood River from SR 14, take the Hood River toll bridge ($1 each direction) at milepost 65 just before Bingen, WA.

Arriving by train Taking the train up the beautiful Columbia Gorge is a visual treat. Amtrak stations in nearby Portland, OR, and Vancouver, WA, are points of departure for the Gorge. The closest Amtrak stop is in the community of Bingen, WA, directly across the river from the City of Hood River. Tickets can be purchased on online. Taxi service is available from Bingen to Hood River (5 minutes), and many of the area’s lodging possibilities offer transportation to and from the Bingen train station.

Arriving by air Commercial air travel flies into Portland International Airport (PDX), just off I-84 and less than an hour by car from Hood River. An easy-to-navigate airport, PDX hosts a wide range of domestic and international airlines and of national car rentals and shuttle services. Taxi, shuttle, and light-rail (MAX) connect the airport with the city center 20 minutes away. Locally, Hood River Airport (Ken Jernstedt Airfield) is a basic utility, stage II airport, and welcomes single-engine and small twin-engine planes, whether for personal or business purposes. A local fixed-base operator supplies fuel, pilot supplies, and a flight-planning computer terminal.
